Vibe Island alternatives

The closest free alternative to Vibe Island is Open Island, an open-source app built in its image, or CodeIsland, which covers even more agents. Crest answers Claude Code, Codex and Copilot CLI prompts on its free tier. Notchbird is the alternative if your agents run on other machines and you want nothing installed there.

We make Notchbird, one of the apps below, so weigh our view accordingly. Every fact here comes from each product's own site, README, changelog or GitHub, read on 7 October 2026, and is linked under Sources. We have not benchmarked the other apps. Email [email protected] if something has changed and we will correct it.

The options

Open Island: the same idea, open source

Open Island's README asks why you would pay for a closed-source app just to monitor your coding agents. It's signed and notarised, supports 13 agents in CLI and desktop forms, and jumps back to the right tab in more than 15 terminals. Approval depth varies by agent, and there's no remote support.

CodeIsland: more agents, also free

CodeIsland covers more than 30 agents, answers prompts for many of them, shows 5-hour and weekly limits, and supports SSH hosts by installing a small helper on the server. It's the strongest free replacement if agent coverage is why you chose Vibe Island.

Crest: free approvals in a full notch app

If you mostly use Claude Code, Codex or Copilot CLI, Crest answers their prompts on its free tier and adds a calendar, file shelf and clipboard. See Crest alternatives for its trade-offs.

Notchbird: remote machines and screen-share privacy

Notchbird's Inbox with a Claude Code permission request showing Deny and Allow, and a question from Claude with two answers.

Notchbird reads Claude Code and Codex on your Mac with no setup, and on one other Mac or Linux machine at a time over plain SSH, so nothing is deployed to the server. If you use Tailscale, it lists your machines so you can pick one. It's hidden from screenshots and screen sharing by default. It covers two agents where Vibe Island covers dozens, and it has no plan review. In return you get everyday tools in the same notch, from a spoken morning plan to a teleprompter. It has a 14-day trial with no card.
